Volunteering opportunities for high school/ college students, medical & nursing students, gap year travellers as well as backpackers and seniors who are keen to step out of their comfort zone and be a part of a meaningful journey. All the programs are curated in a way that both the giver & the receiver are equally benefitted.
Childcare Volunteer Program
Volunteer for Childcare program with BJF and make a difference in the lives of children from underprivileged communities, spend time with them. This is the best way forward when it comes imagining a better future for the world and working towards it. Childcare projects are headed across Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand. Volunteers will get to engage meaningfully with locals, learn a new language, meet other fellow volunteers from across the globe and experience the benefits of civic engagement.
As a volunteer in the childcare projects, volunteers get to:
Do volunteer work with children in a kindergarten, school, special needs center, or care center for mothers and babies.
Work closely with kids – teach them, design fun games for them, help in making their meals, feed them, and engage them with learning and playful activities.
Learn about the Early Childhood Development and needs of mothers with a dual burden of childcare and making a living.
Raise funds for the center and long term sustainability of the childcare center
Engage with the local community, learn a new language and interact with all stakeholders of children’s development.
Disabled Care & Special Need Volunteer Program
Volunteer for the Disabled Care & Special Need Program and take care of children, most of whom have mental and physical disabilities. Projects are available in Delhi and Uttarakhand. Volunteers need to be extremely patient and empathetic towards the children while showering them with adequate love & care. Your main focus should be on the well-being of these special kids. While this is one of the most challenging volunteering programs, it is undoubtedly the most satisfying as well.
Responsibilities at the project include:
Keeping kids engaged in mindful games, teaching them basic lessons
Assist in helping to make crafts and paintings
Carry out activities through which they can learn valuable lessons
Assist the caretaking staff in administrative work of the center(s)
Volunteer for Teaching Programs
Participate in teaching programs and make a contribution to the education of growing children. BJF (Beth Johnson Foundation) offers wide range of volunteer teaching opportunities across India.
You can also choose teaching Buddhist Monks in UT Leh Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Karnataka. Volunteer at TCV schools (Tibetan Children Village) and dedicated nunneries.
Responsibilities at the project include:
Volunteers help in improving the vocabulary as well as the spoken English skills of the students. You may also get involved in teaching other subjects such as Computers/IT skills, Maths and Geography, General Knowledge etc., as per the requirement.
You can assist the teachers during their lessons, think of activity-based learning methods and give proper attention to the children. Often, volunteers also take up the cause of renovating the school premises, making them more friendly and vibrant for the kids.
Volunteers can also assist in extracurricular activities such as sports and games.
Volunteers just need to have a good command over written and conversational English.
Volunteers should be open-minded, flexible and prepared to face challenges. In some projects, volunteers find themselves teaching in an open-air classroom and the need for creativity and improvisation is paramount.
We encourage our volunteers to raise funds in case they choose to bring along some useful materials and supplies which can be utilized for the project like coloring books, charts, study materials, pens & pencils, notebooks etc.
Environment Conservation Volunteering Program
BJF has collaborated with other Environment Conservation bodies in India, being a part of which, one can directly get involved in protecting and nurturing Mother Nature.

What are the responsibilities as a Volunteer For Environment Conservation Programs?
Help in the conservation and preservation work as guided by the project coordinator.
Help in the maintenance work and upkeep of the forests or allocated project area.
Learn about the flora and fauna of the place where you’re working, and enhance your knowledge.
Work with local communities who live in the regions, and conserve the environment through indigenous methods.
Spread awareness among the people regarding environmental protection and conservation.
